Project Description
The Asian Waterbird Census (AWC) is a component of the global International Water Bird Census (IWC), a citizen-science program dedicated to supporting the conservation and management of wetlands and waterbirds worldwide. WWF-India, Kerala State Office along with Kollam Birding Battalion has been coordinating the AWC in the Kollam District of Kerala since 2015. The involvement of volunteers, including bird identification experts, photographers, and other enthusiasts, has helped it turn into a successful Citizen Science initiative. It is especially impressive that many volunteers have progressed from budding birders to expert birders and even conservation enthusiasts.
